UNFPA, in collaboration with sister UN agencies, organized a panel discussion with UN volunteers (UNVs) and youth from outside of the UN to discuss how peacebuilding, security, and human rights relates to their organizations’ mandate areas. The UNFPA Panel Discussion provided a platform that encouraged an exchange of views and experience sharing on the nexus between peace, security, human rights and the role of the youth particularly regarding civil society and youth action in Nigeria. Among participating agencies were the World Health Organization, the United Nations Development Programme, the International Labour Organization and UN Women.

The UNFPA Panel Discussion provided an opportunity for UNV’s and other panelists to engage with each other, exchange views and experiences, and discuss the nexus between peace, security, human rights and the role of the youth particularly regarding civil society and youth action in Nigeria.

The conversation covered a wide range of topics such as gender, innovation, social media, employment and decent work, and social mobilization, amongst other things. The audience addressed the panelists with engaging, critical questions and networked with each other following the exchange.

Some learning as a result of the engagement included enhanced awareness amongst participants and attendees on mechanisms and unique opportunites that promote peace through the promulgation of human rights. The convening equally cultivated a greater sense of youth responsibility to take up actions that facilitate peace and uphold human rights.
