Version 11 of the COVID-19 Situation Analysis for your information and guidance.

Week of 2nd to 8th May ended with upsurge in cases reaching 3,912 and 117 deaths.

Thirty-four (34) States and FCT remained the States with reported cases and 16 of these States are UNFPA assisted Programme States

Nigeria ranked 60th out of the 213 affected countries in the world, 6th out of the 53 affected countries in Africa, and 2nd out of the 23 countries in UNFPA West and Central Africa Region (WCAR).

Nigeria accounted for 18.5% of total cases and 22.3% of total deaths in UNFPA WCAR, 6.6% of the total cases and 5.4% of total deaths in Africa, and 0.09% of the total cases and 0.04% of total deaths in the world.

Evidence of widespread community transmission continued at 56%.

The upsurge in cases may be attributed to the increased testing capacity from 17 to 21 laboratories across the country, but this testing capacity remains low considering widespread reported cases of mysterious deaths across the Northern States including Bauchi, Kano, Sokoto and Yobe.
