Nigerian Government Pledges Free Contraceptives to States
Abuja, Nigeria: The Honorable Minister of Health Dr. C. O. Onyebuchi flagged off the distribution of free contraceptive commodities to the state, stating that family planning has been acclaimed globally as one of the key strategies for promoting maternal, newborn and child health, and national development.
UNFPA Executive Director's Mission to Nigeria

The Executive Director of UNFPA, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin on his first official mission to Africa, visited Nigeria, Ethiopia and Kenya. Landing in Abuja, Babatunde was recieved by UNFPA Country Representative in Nigeria, Agathe Lawson, and Bunmi Makinwa, Director of the African Regional Office.
Federal Government set to tackle Maternal, Newborn and Child Health in seven states

Alh. Suleiman Bello, Minister of State for Health said the country was set to tackle maternal and infant care in seven pilot states which are Ebonyi, Taraba, Bayelsa, Kwara, Adamawa, Ogun and Zamfara where we have the poorest maternal and infant health indices as he reaffirmed that the Millennium Development Target by Nigeria is achievable.
UNFPA Executive Director Visits Health Minister of Nigeria

The Executive Director United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) Prof. Babatunde Osotmehin, who was also the immediate past Minister of Health, has visited the Health Minister of Nigeria Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu.
In his address during the visit the Executive Director said that the only way to have accurate data on Maternal and Child mortality in Nigeria is to separate data of the States. He said that some States has done well in the control of Maternal and child Mortality.
UNFPA Director of Management Services and Africa Regional Director's Visit to Nigeria
The purpose of the mission was to provide management support to the country office as part of the restructuring processes to improve programme delivery and management of the Nigeria CO operations. The team recognized the need to improve national development indices in Nigeria and the strategic role the CO occupied.
