Voluntary
Counselling & Testing (VCT) National Guidelines and
Training Manual
VCT is a gateway to various HIV prevention care and
support services including Prevention of Mother to Child
Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV/AIDS, Anti-Retroviral (ARV)
therapy and management of Opportunistic Infections.
In recognition of the over 3.5 million Nigerians
already infected with HIV, UNFPA has partnered with the
Federal Ministry of Health to develop a comprehensive Training
Manual on HIV/AIDS VCT Services that
will assure the training of professional counselors, and
the National Guidelines for HIV/AIDS VCT
to provide uniform and standardized VCT service delivery
in the country.

Can We Really Talk
About It?
UNFPA is working to develop culturally
appropriate information and education channels for adolescent
reproductive health. To
achieve this objective, UNFPA has partnered with Action Health
Incorporated, one of Nigeria’s leading youth-serving NGO’s
to develop a Parent-Child Communication Guide entitled,
Can We Really Talk About It?
Produced in Self-Help and Workshop Guide
formats.
The
project aims at assisting parents to develop
communication skills that would enhance a positive
relationship with their teenage children. The guide provides parents with the
necessary information and skills to promote open and honest
discussion of sexual and reproductive health issues with their
adolescents.

| Baseline Survey
The Baseline Survey is a major activity
in the 15 States UNFPA is assisting in the 5th Country
Programme of Assistance to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
It is one of the main strategies to enhance the Result Based
Management (RBM) approach and show results in the
implementation of the country programme. The main objective
of the survey is to provide baseline data for subsequent
assessment of the 5th Country Programme and to determine the
extent to which planned outputs have been achieved. It is
expected that the Baseline Survey will be completed and data
will begin to be disseminated in August 2004 and continue
throughout the year. Results will be posted on the website as
made available.

Fistula is a preventable and treatable condition, one that no woman should
have to endure.
Yet more than two million women remain untreated in
developing countries. That is why UNFPA has launched a global Campaign to
End Fistula.
