This preview highlights a postpartum hemorrhage case in Northern Nigeria in early 2009. The segment is part of a feature documentary by filmmaker Dawn Sinclair Shapiro, that intimately follows Nigerias most distinguished medical and social scientists in obstetric and reproductive health as they implement a range of initiatives to improve maternal and child health. The film includes groundbreaking work Pathfinder International is leading to improve maternal survival and reduce maternal deaths by postpartum hemorrhage. Nigeria ranks second in maternal deaths worldwide, with more than 50,000 women dying each year in childbirth or from pregnancy-related causes. The films unprecedented access to Nigerias vanguard of maternal and child health professionals personalizes and illustrates this global issue. Expected for release in 2010, Dawn and her team will be filming throughout Nigeria in 2009. As it becomes available, more information about the film will be posted at www.pathfind.org.
